Science vs Religion

Science vs Religion

After teaching a junior high school science class a young lady came up to me and asked, "Mr. Lemon, do you believe in God?" I told her that I did. She said, "But you are a scientist." I said that you think science and religion are at opposits like North and South. That is not true. Science and religion are like East and West. True science and true religion must agree because they explain the same reality. If they do not agree one of them, or both, are wrong. I did not have time to continue because it was time for the next class.

Any religion that disagrees with scientific fact cannot be true. [Note that scientific theories do not become fact until they are proven true.]

The first thing I do when a new scientific theory is presented is see if it explains the scriptures. If it does not, I do not accept that theory. If it does, and it is logical, then I can tenatively accept that theory as I investigate further.

The latest theory in science is 'String Theory'. According to this theory, there are 11 dimentions to existance. But we are aware of only the 3 in which we live. According to this theory, matter is just another form of energy in which all the dimentions, except the 3 in which we live, are folded in on themselves. It is said that this folding of other dimentions is what gives this energy the property of inertia, and gravity, the properties of mass. OK. The scriptural interpretation might then be that in the beginning there was energy but no mass. In other words, our universe had not yet been created. Then God said "Let there be light." A singularity was created in which energy began being converted into matter. From singularity, mass expanded out to create all the stars, planets, and everything else of which our material universe consists. It seems that the center of each galaxy there exists such a singularity where matter continues to be created. And at the same time, matter is being consumed as Stars convert matter back into energy. To me, this makes much more sense then 'The Big Bang' in which all mater first existed in a very small space.

It seems logical to assume that since our spirits existed before the worlds were, that our spirits would also consist of energy without mass. We are born with both body and spirit. A union that continues until we die and our eternal spirit leaves a physical body without life.

It is the properties of mass that gives us time. Therefore, time would be measured only unto man. At judgement our entire lives would be read in a single glance because time would only be another dimention.

[Moses 1:6] And I have a work for thee, Moses, my son; and thou art in the similitude of mine Only Begotten; and mine Only Begotten is and shall be the Savior, for he is full of grace and truth; but there is no God beside me, and all things are present with me for I know them all.

And that is why prophets, receiving knowledge from God, know the future given to them because God does know the future. Prophecy of the future does not depend on any extrapulation of the present into the future. False Prophets do this and it doesn't work.
